Prologue
When I was small, this little metal object was my treasure. It has a weird shape, it’s little, and only have one function. The silver metal was cold and I remember it hurt when I grabbed it firmly. Click, I turn it half-way in the beginning of the day. Click, I turn it half-way at the end of the day. Being small, I felt really prideful when I heard that sound. But, there is myself who wants to cry every time I hear that sound. Click, click. Once in the beginning. Once at the end. A day created a perfect circle and I repeated it every day. It keeps turning and turning without knowing where to stop. Half of happiness and half of sadness. The day that doesn’t change was like a store sign of some barber shop. But, the ongoing days of spiral ended abruptly. The silver metal was just cold—–There’s no happiness. When I grab it firmly, I bred——-There’s no sadness. Of course, a metal is just a metal. There aren’t any dreamful thoughts there. When I found out that reality when I was eight, the metal wasn’t a bright object as before. I realized at that time… To become an adult is to exchange your dreams with knowledge. Thinking foolishly that I matured early, I accepted that truth pride-fully
A boy who just killed someone.

Officer Akimi Daisuke heard a weird story. There was a robber who sneaked into an apartment, but he ran down to a police station asking for help. According to him, the family in the room that he entered were all murdered. But when the police officers got there, that family was in the middle of dinner. They found out the man was robbing the apartment and he was caught. But this was just a weird incident and Officer Akimi quickly forgot about it.
Enjou Tomoe was sitting quietly on a street at night. His old classmates came up to him and started picking on him. They made fun of him for quitting high school and if he’s going to give them some allowance. Without saying anything, Tomoe pushed an empty can into one of the guy’s mouth and socked him. Tomoe calmly looked at the guy who passed out and started running. The other guys were stunned, but realizing what just happened, they ran after Tomoe yelling, “you’re dead!!” Tomoe chuckled hearing that. He just came here from killing someone. They don’t know what it means to kill someone. Tomoe is soon cornered at a back alley. He knocks out two guys in a gruesome way. He didn’t care if he kills them or not. But the remaining three guys started beating up on him. That was a naive way of beating that is far from trying to kill someone. Tomoe, in his losing consciousness, was wondering if it’s a bigger sin to kill someone intentionally or to kill someone by accident. That moment a girl in a kimono came to the back alley. The three guys in their excited mind thought of raping the girl, but instead they got knocked out by her. The girl was about to leave without saying anything, but Tomoe tells her to wait. The girl replies if he wants her to call the police or the hospital. But Tomoe said no to a police because he killed someone. The girl didn’t believe him but was like if you says so, then you must be. That was an unexpected reply and Tomoe tells her, aren’t you scared? …It’ll be the same thing killing one or two person. The girl says killing one person is different from killing two. Tomoe is irritated and tells her that he really killed someone. The girl said, I am a killer too, and she turned around. He tells her to wait again, and asks her to help him. Take him to a safe place. The girl said, oh then do you want o use my house? It was strange, but Tomoe followed her. He realized that he was attracted to her.
Tomoe is watching a dream. He is in his bed. His mother started arguing with his father in the living room. It became silent all of a sudden and the door opened. His mom was standing there with a bloody knife in her hand. She started stabbing him and killed herself after that…
Tomoe wakes up in the girl’s room. The two of them came home last night, and the girl went to sleep without saying anything. He was irritated that the girl didn’t even consider him being there and thought of raping her. But he got scared of making a commotion and gave up and slept. When he woke up, she wasn’t there anymore. He went out for a walk outside thinking that the police might be looking for yesterday’s murderer. But there weren’t any and he sits down at a bench on a street. He looks at the people passing by and thinks how many of them are living their life truthfully. At least he thinks he wasn’t. Till he entered high school, Tomoe was track sprinter that had high expectations. He was in fact very fast, and enjoyed running more than anything. But his family wasn’t wealthy. His dad lost his job and always got drunk. His mom broke off from her family to marry his father, and she was an inexperienced person who could do nothing. He couldn’t rely on his parents for high school tuition and he worked for it by himself. But soon, that came to an end when his dad ran over a person without a driver’s license. Since then, his school stopped supporting him. Tome had no feelings for such parent, but the public looked down at him just for being his child When he thought about how foolish it was to live a normal life, he quit school and worked all day. He lost something he liked to do, just because of stupid excuses, such as there weren’t any people who’ll support him and he had no time. That’s why he’s a person who’s not living his life truthfully, a fake. When he came back to the girl’s apartment, he noticed the door was unlocked when she’s not home. He goes in the room fearfully. The girl came home, turning on the light saying what are you doing in the dark, and tosses him an ice cream that she just bought. Tomoe asks her why didn’t she lock the door. She answers that’s because she lost the key. Tomoe is angry and says a home without lock isn’t a home. He said he’ll get a new door knob.
The girl doesn’t care if Tomoe is a guy and lets him stay at her room as long as he wants. She said a person called Mikiya isn’t coming anytime soon either. Tomoe finally found out her name was Ryogi Shiki. One day she asked him if he had a girl friend. Tomoe said he used to, but he never liked her. The girl was the one who dumped him saying, you never looked at my feelings. Shiki laughs saying, how can you look at a person’s feeling when humans can only look at the outside. Having silly conversations like that, two weeks passes by. One night Shiki comes home frustrated. She was looking for someone to kill but she couldn’t find any. Tomoe asks her if she has a friend. She said she does. He was surprised, but he tells her to take out your feelings on that friend without keeping it inside. But she said he’s away right now. Tomoe tells her to call that friend back and cause troubles for him; Saying that’s what friends are for, he goes to sleep. He was hurt with his own words. Why wouldn’t she consider him as that kind of friend.
October was ending and nearly a month has passed since Tomoe left his family and work. But everyone in society seemed to go on with their life without any news of his murder. He finds that there is someone who is following Shiki around. A blond man in a red coat. Tomoe tells that to Shiki, but she didn’t care. Tomoe is angry that she might be in danger, but Shiki asks him why he’s so concerned about her. Tomoe confesses that he likes her and he’s worried about her. But Shiki starts laughing and makes sure he was hypnotize by the man in the red coat. Tomoe says he’s serious, and Shiki looks at him coldly saying, then will you let me kill you? Tomoe says he’ll die for her, he already killed his parents, he isn’t afraid of anything. Shiki asks him why did you kill them. Tomoe answers that he was afraid, he always saw this dream that her mother killed his father and him. Shiki calls him an idiot. Tomoe believes that he needed to kill them, and his feeling towards Shiki was true. But he hated himself, even that feeling was tainted because he was a murderer. Shiki loses her interest in him and leaves the room. Tomoe decides to leave the apartment that he spent a month in.
Mikiya returned to Tohko’s office from his driving school. It was a school where they had the students enter a dorm and made them study intensively. Tohko had a fever and Mikiya is preparing her food. Mikiya sees a picture of Tohko when she was in the Mage’s academy in London. There’s two men standing next to her: A Japanese man in black and a blond man wearing a red coat. She started talking about her past in her fevered mind: All sorcerers are trying to reach the root of things. She tried to reach it by researching the body of humans, while the other guy tried to reach it by researching the soul. Primates today are very complicated but in the beginning it was very simple. She said the DNA of human beings are made from 4 simple codes, but by repeating it an uncalculateable number of times, the spiral becomes uncalculateable and creates a paradox She given up in trying to decode this and decided to create a body herself. But the only thing she can do is to create herself perfectly. The other guy, on the hand is still pursuing the root.
The next day, Mikiya is doing his usual job such as calling different companies to get the best prices on construction material. His sister Azaka is there and copying some kind of notes down. Azaka has been studying sorcery under Tohko. When Mikiya says to her that how can he explain to their father that she is studying to become a magician, Azaka starts lecturing to him how magicians and sorcerers are two different things and what sorcery is. While they are there, Azaka also points out how Mikiya shouldn’t be with a woman who talks like a man. Mikiya says that he still likes her, and Azaka leaves pissed off. When he was about to get off from work, Tohko gives Mikiya a side task. She heard an interesting story at an apartment from an police officer she knew. There was a woman who was heavily wounded at night and she cried out for help at this apartment. Sadly, no one came to help and she died. When the police questioned the residents of this apartment., they all said they never heard her cry. But the weird thing is that the residents in the apartment next to it heard her cry. There was a previous case of a weird story at this apartment, and she asks him to research it on his free time.
Next morning, Mikiya receives an long object from Shiki’s house servant, Akitaka. He came to deliver it to Shiki but she wasn’t home that night. It was a katana from 500 years ago. Shiki was happy to see it but Tohko said don’t take out something dangerous like that here. Mikiya has actually completed the research over the night. Not only did he get a print out of the apartment architecture, he got all the names and background information of the family living there. The apartment was 10 story high, circular, divided up into the east and the west section.
The first two floors are lobbies and there are 10 rooms in each of the floor above that, but only about half of them have residents in them. Tohko had to stop him when he started announcing each of the family names, but Shiki heard a familiar name and heads out of the office. Tohko tells her she can use the 200cc motorcycle, but don’t touch the Harry Davidson with the side car.
Tohko and Mikiya visits this apartment together. Mikiya feels sick when he enters the building but Tohko tells him it’s just his imagination. Mikiya visits the family that was in question on 5th floor while Tohko looks around the floors above. Mikiya concludes that her story was all made up; The Enjou family were all alive and acting normally. When Mikiya meets up with Tohko, she points out that you can easily mistake the floor you are in, with this similar floor design. She stops by the lobby and does something saying it’s just in case.
When Enjou Tomoe noticed, he was back in Shiki’s apartment. Shiki returns and says, what perfect timing. Tomoe is going crazy saying he saw his mother alive walking down the street. Shiki replies saying, let’s go see if that’s true. She finished assembling the katana, but she just took two knives with her. They get on the Harry Davidson with the side car and drive to his apartment. When he gets to the front of his room, she stops him from knocking on the door, saying that it’s better not to turn on the switch. When they get in, Tomoe’s father and mother were in the living room just like how they usually were. —–One thing that was different, was that they didn’t notice that Tomoe and Shiki were there. Tomoe doesn’t understand what’s going on. Shiki says that because we didn’t turn on the switch. they don’t do anything out of the routine. Soon, another Tomoe comes home. That Tomoe ignores them as if they were ghosts and goes to sleep. The mother gets in a fight with the father, kills him, kills Tomoe, and kills herself. She lwas crying and looked very sad. Tomoe couldn’t believe what’s going on but Shiki tells him to get up, we don’t need to stay here anymore. Tomoe screams that people are dead, but notices that there were no blood anywhere. Shiki takes him to the other side of the apartment, to the room that is on the opposite end from Tomoe’s room. He finds the real dead bodies of his parents, about half a year old. That was such a meaningless and worthless dead boy, but Tomoe couldn’t take his eyes off of them. Shiki and Tomoe are soon attacked by dead bodies of the residents manipulated like a doll. When they get out in the hall way, a man is standing in front of them. He is Araya Souren. He is the owner of this apartment, the one who made Fujyou Kirie and Asagami Fujino collide with Shiki, and the man she met two years ago. Shiki tries to kill him, but the three layers of bounded barriers stops her. Casting spells of Buddhistic terms, he attacks her from a distant. Shiki fights back using her ability and kills the bounded barrier. She tackles him, pierces through his chest with her knife, and stabs his throat. However, he was still alive and knocks Shiki out by an heavy punch to her stomach. He slams her into the wall, and she got sucked into the wall as if the wall was water. The man stopped moving after that.
Mikiya was wondering where Shiki went and visits Tohko. They get an unwanted guest there. A blond young man in a red coat, Cornelius Arba. He said he has captured Shiki and will be waiting for Tohko to come. After he leaves, Mikiya asks Tohko what is going on. She explains that the apartment was an experimental site of a sorcerer. In order to hide the existence of the abnormal place from society, it was made to look like a normal place from the outside. And they took Shiki because she has something to do with the experiment. Of the two suit case that she has, Tohko takes the orange smaller suitcase and heads for the apartment to save Shiki.
End of volume 1 and beginning of volume 2.
When Tohko gets to the apartment, Arba was waiting for her at the lobby. Arba says he was waiting for the day to kill her and they start fighting. Arba used some slime like creatures that shaped into human and beast form to attack her. When Tohko opened up her suit case, something black came out and started flying around her. When the whirl wind died down, the slimes were all gone and something that look like a giant black cat, a little taller than Tohko, was standing in front of her. The black cat started running towards Arba. He created a pillar of blue flame but that didn’t hurt the cat at all. He created pillar of flames one after an another but the cat kept on flying towards him. When the cat got to Arba, it opened its gigantic mouth. The previous slimes were still stuck inside its mouth. In his fear, Arba realized that this cat was a being that consists of just a mouth. It chomped on him before he could cast another spell. A buddhistic spell froze the cat that was just about to crush Arba’s body. It’s been a while, Aozaki, said Araya Souren. He pulls off Arba who lost his consciousness and threw him down. He started explaining that this building was made to research people’s death. He found that there were 64 different kind of death to people and he collected those families who died in those respectable ways to this apartment. By having them die every day, he was hoping to simplify the pattern of people’s death and eventually arrive at the death which will be able to reach the root of all things. Tohko said that you’ll never win against the suppressing power, the ultimate will to survive of mankind. Souren agrees, that power has acted three times already no matter how hard he tried to hide what he was doing from society: The fact that Tohko was living in this city, the robber who came to this apartment, and the woman who died of a wound. So he came up with another plan. Rather than trying to reach the root of things himself, he will use a body that has already reached it. That’s why he kidnapped Shiki and he’s now thinking of transferring his brain into her body. Araya asks Tohko if she want to cooperate with him. She answers no. She already quit being a “sorceress” The more she studied, the more distant herr goal seemed. Her pursue was meaningless and now she just want to protect who she can protect. Araya doesn’t believe so, the more he studies the higher he is able to become. There were no need to talk anymore, but Tohko asks him one last question. “Araya, what do you seek for?” “True Knowledge” “Araya, where do you seek it” “Only within myself” Tohko waited for a chance to attack Araya. They both only knew how to fight close range. Tohko’s rune sorcery needed to be directly inscribed into her opponent to do any damage while Ayara who only researched people’s death only had physical combat skills. But making Araya approach her was dangerous because he has the three layers of bounded barriers. Even then, Tohko still waited because she had a plan. But contrary to her belief, Araya put out his hand and crushed the air space she was in from a distant. Tohko broke her ribcage. If he did it again, she will die for sure. She couldn’t afford to hold back and ordered her cat to attack. The cat was just acting that it was frozen by Araya’s bounded barrier. But it only surprised him for a second and it was crushed along with the ceiling. He believes he won, but the cat was still alive and it ate him. His body was torn to pieces and there was no way he was alive. Tohko lifts her body up and starts walking. But something stabbed her from behind. Someone’s hand was sticking out her chest. Araya Souren literally came out of the wall behind her. The Araya that she just killed was a puppet. But Tohko’s body is real. Araya crushes her heart. He realized the cat monster was a holographic image shaped by ether, being projected by Tohko’s suitcase. When he popped open the suitcase, there was a film projector. Before she died, Tohko asked Araya a question she asked once before, what do you wish for? He answers that he doesn’t wish anything. This man doesn’t wish anything in the world, he just wants to end it. Tohko tells him one last thing, there’s two types of suppressing powers. The ultimate will of mankind to survive and the ultimate will of the world to survive. Which one is his enemy? Araya answers that it is mankind. That means he is up against the will power of 6 billion human beings in the world, she says he’ll never have a chance. He answers that he will win, without hesitation. How pitiful, Araya. Saying those last words, Tohko’s body stopped it’s function. Araya tore off her head from the body and left the lobby.
Araya Souren is sitting in a dark place. Sound of steams. Tohko’s head is inside a glass bottle with some liquids. Arba comes in yelling at him. Arba chose to come here because Araya said that he’ll let him kill Tohko. Araya tosses him the bottle with Tohko’s head. Arba leaves the room giggling. He didn’t hear Araya saying, you’re fate is already determined.
Enjou Tomoe was shivering with fear in Shiki’s room. Back when Araya just defeated Shiki, his body started moving again and it glared at him. He was just scared and without thinking about anything else, he ran away to this place. He was helpless. He always thought he could do anything on his own, but right now he couldn’t even go help Shiki. But when he saw Shiki’s katana laying on the floor, he remember his feeling towards her. Just when he made up his mind that he isn’t afraid to die for Shiki, the door bell rang. It was Kokuto Mikiya. Hearing Tomoe’s story, Mikiya was more calm about the situation and proposed to get help from the Police. But Tomoe insisted that he needs to go save Shiki and they decided to go together. There was one place Mikiya needed to take Tomoe before that though. They got on and off a train and walked through the night city. When Tomoe was irritated where this guy was taking him instead of saving Shiki, they arrive at a rundown house. Tomoe knew this house, it’s the house that their family was living before they had to move around from money problems. He remembers the time he spent with his family, and the time his father gave him their house key telling him not to lose it. The house key signified that he was part of the family… The responsibility of protecting his family… Tomoe couldn’t stop crying. All he could do was to ignore his parents when they were the ones who needed his help the most. The apartment or the dream didn’t kill his parents, he did. Tomoe determined that he needs to take responsibility. He needs to fight for his family and himself, not for Shiki. Now with that in mind, he headed for the apartment with Mikiya.
The plan was very simple. Mikiya goes in from the front entrance to distract their enemy while Tomoe sneaked in from the underground parking lot, through the elevator to get to the top floor, where Shiki is most likely held captive. Before they separated, Tomoe gave the keys to Shiki’s room to Mikiya, because he knew he could trust Shiki with this person. When Mikya entered the apartment, Arba just came out of the elevator, holding Tohko’s head in his hand. He crushes the head in front of him in joy. Without raising a voice, Mikiya just ran away towards the east lobby. His mind lost its rationality and didn’t even remember that the lobby is a dead end.
When Tomoe entered the underground parking lot, he heard a sound of steams. He somehow knew this place and his body is shaking. There was a steamed steel plate in the middle of the room and tubes were all over the place. One end of the tube ran towards the ceiling, while the other end lead to a number of glass bottles. Something was inside the glass bottle, and it only looked like a human brain. That was what was still moving the fake residents of the apartment and making them repeat the same last day over and over. He soon found himself, thinking, right in front of his eyes. Two tubes were running from the bottle, one leading to the ceiling, and the other was cut off in the middle. That moment, his left arm that was hurting since last night fell off from his elbow. Aside from the things that looked like muscles and bones, something that looked like gears were also there. Tomoe couldn’t stop laughing. He is able to think and do so much things, yet all he did was to kill his parents and ran… Taking the knife and Katana that he brought, Tomoe got on the elevator and pushed the button to the top floor.
While Mikiya was escaping from Arba, he got his knee cut and fell down. He tried to fight back using a paper knife that he had, but it only pierced Arba’s hand and Mikiya fell unconscious from the pain. Saying that it hurt, Arba took Mikiya’s head and banged it against the stairs repetitively. When he felt better and thought that he had no reason to stay here anymore, he heard foot steps. When he looked back, Tohko was standing there with her bigger suit case. Arba couldn’t help it but to say, “but you’re suppose to be dead!” This Tohko in front of him or the Tohko he killed, one of it had to be a puppet. But both of them felt real without any flaw. Tohko said even I don’t know which one was the real me, maybe both of them are puppets. But that doesn’t matter because the fact is that she is there. That was totally incomprehensible to Arba. When he studied sorcery, the real him always needed to be there so he can observe his achievements. It was pointless if he didn’t have his real self anymore. But that didn’t matter to Tohko. That is the true mindset of a “sorcerer” which Arba didn’t have. A Sorcerer’s own ego was a subtle issue to the development of sorcery. Tohko opened her big suit case and two eyes were gleaming out of its darkness. Tentacles came out and grabbed Arba. They pulled him in and started eating him alive. Arba was wanting to show that he was the better sorcerer than her, but his last thought was that he shouldn’t have involved himself with such monsters like Tohko and Araya. Tohko hurries to help Mikiya. It has been an hour since he got cut. The trap that she set on the first day she came to this apartment went off and Arba wasn’t able to see and think until she came. And so Mikiya’s only injury was his knee.
Tomoe reached the top floor and faced Araya. Araya had no interest in him, he was just a puppet who wandered off from the spiral. He said that he took that as an advantage and used Tomoe to lure Shiki into this building. The emotion Tomoe felt towards Shiki was preprogrammed by Araya and no feeling of him was real. But Tomoe told him, there’s no real or fake to human beings. What is important that he’s here having strong thoughts and feelings. He really did like Shiki. But now he need to risk his life and fight for no other one but for himself. Tomoe asks Araya, am I fake? Araya says there’s no need to answer Tomoe says, yeah, but my feelings are real. He started sprinting towards Araya, as Enjou Tomoe. He was only aiming for his chest. He gets stopped by Araya’s bounded barrier. But Tomoe put all his force within his body as he thought of the memories and thoughts he experienced for the past month, and he was able to break off his leg. His falling body landed the knife into Araya’s chest. But that was too weak of an attack to hurt the sorcerer and Araya called him a fool. Your origin, the meaning and direction of your existence set from the beginning of your birth, is “worthless”. Saying that, he crushed Tomoe’s body to pieces.
Araya sent his mind to the bottom floor and started talking with Tohko. Tohko had no interest in fighting him anymore, but told him he made one mistake. Knowing that he is an expert of an bounded field, she knew he must have imprisoned Shiki inside an inescapable air space created out of sorcery. But that was a mistake against the user of the Eyes of Death Perception. An invisible prison is far more effective than a physical one against an ordinary human, but not to Shiki who can see the death of things. She would have had more trouble with a simple prison made of a concrete wall since she only has the physical strength of a girl, without a tool. Araya has indeed used a prison made out of sorcery. Araya felt that Shiki escaped his prison and he had to sent his mind back to his main body. Shiki came out of the elevator, holding her Katana. Araya thinks where he made the miscalculation. If Shiki didn’t have the time to regain her consciousness, there was no problem with him using the prison made out of sorcery. Where did he lose this time? Not by the conversation with Tohko because that only took few seconds. “Enjou Tomoe…” it was the few minutes that he took to fight Tomoe. Shiki denies it by saying she just woke up on her own, but says that Tomoe had already ruined your plan. The moment he left the apartment, he was already a factor out of Araya’s original plan. Araya sensed something different from Shiki from the one that he fought yesterday. Shiki told him, she isn’t happy at all to fight him, even though she should be able to have a great fight with him. That is probably because of her feeling towards the one who killed Tomoe. Shiki runs straight up to him, kills his crushing air space, and killed two of his bounded barrier in an instant. Araya jumped away from her. His right arm tore off from his shoulders as he jumped away. She was so fast that he never realized when he was sliced. Araya suspected that her change in her strength was due to her weapon. When ancient warriors held their katana into their hand, they converted themselves into a battle state. Their mind and bodies turned into fighting machines. When Araya pointed that out, she answered yes in a woman’s accent. Then you weren’t fighting Fujino seriously, he asked. She answered, no I am always fighting seriously. Araya finally realized he is talking to another personality of Shiki. He needed to get her body no matter what. His torn right arm jumped to Shiki’s throat like a snake, while he used his left arm to crush the air space around Shiki’s body. Her leather jacket is ripped apart, but her body in the white kimono disappeared. She appeared in front of him and stabbed his chest. Araya determines that the only way he’ll be able to stop her is to sacrifice his world with her. His black silhouette disappears. Without thinking much, Shiki jumped off the building.
Araya appeared in the garden in front of his apartment. He thought of crushing the apartment along with Shiki. That instant, his body was ripped in half from his shoulder. Shiki dropped down from the 10th floor and sliced his body. How different is that from dropping a needle from up there aiming for a target? Her body was froze in mid air ironically by Araya’s last bounded barrier. He kicked Shiki out of the way. The katana broke and she landed on the floor unconscious. His goal was right in front of his eyes, but he couldn’t move anymore. “I see, my origin was ’standstill’”
Tohko came up to Araya as if she was on the way home from a walk. She asks him the reason he was trying to pursue the root of things so badly. He said he forgot, but in his mind, he thought of the time he traveled around the war battlegrounds as monk. There was no salvation there. Human beings can’t be saved. That’s why he thought of recording death. And by recording the end of the world, he was trying to determine who was happy and who was sad. Maybe he is able to find a meaning to people’s lives by reviewing everything at the end. That’s why he was trying to end the world. Tohko tells him an ironic story. Arayashiki is another term for the suppression power of the human beings. He had the same name as the thing he was fighting all his life. He is unable to answer. His body is turning to dusts. At the end, Tohko asks him one last time. “Araya, what do you seek for?” “True Knowledge” “Araya, where do you seek it” “Only within myself” “Araya, where are you heading for?” Of course, to the end of this World(spiral) full of paradox, she thought he said that as he crumbled away by the wind.
A girl was waiting for someone at a cafe. Another boy was sitting behind her, also waiting for someone. The boy she was waiting for was late, but seeing that another person is waiting for someone who’s also late, she sat and waited patiently. The idiot who is wearing all black finally came, while there was another girl in white who came for the other boy. The girl who was waiting took the west exit while the other boy who was waiting took the opposite east exit. When she looked back, their eyes met. They waved to each other for no reason. Good bye, she thought she heard the boy who looked like a person she knew say that.
Shiki was waken up by a door bell. She didn’t feel like seeing Mikiya right now and stayed in her bed. But he opened the lock and came in. He brought breakfast for her. Two weeks has passed since the incident and their wounds were starting to heal. Mikiya tells her to make sure she finishes high school. Facing the other way, Shiki asks Mikiya for his house key saying it’s not fair.

I noticed there were some differences and missing parts between the novel version and movie version. IMO, One of the important things that lack on the movie was Cornelius’ part. As you can see from the Novel Synopsis, there were some actions from Cornelius against Touko. But on the movie, Cornelius is such a useless character though his laugh kinda hilarious. But that didn’t make him as an hero. He happened to be there just to be rawr’d by tentacle suitcase. Well anyway, I think I could fill that missing part with this fabulous lulz.

空の境界 …is nothing id, nothing cosmos
Epilogue
A snowing day in March. Mikiya sees Ryogi Shiki standing in the street spaced out.
She says in a woman’s accent, “—–It’s been a while, Kokuto-kun”
This was another personality of Shiki, different from the other two. Of the two extreme personality she has, this Shiki laid right in the middle, where there is nothing there. Mikiya had actually met her for the first time in March 1995, when she was standing in the snow just like now, but the other two personality doesn’t know that because they are unaware of her existence.
She asks him if he had any wish, that’s the reason she appeared. But he doesn’t wish for anything. Looking a little sad but satisfied, she says I knew you would say that. She asks him where does he think a personality lies in a human body. Mikiya think it’s the brain, but she answers no. Brain is where the knowledge lies, and the personality lies in the body itself. She is that original personality of Ryogi Shiki. The two personality were created within her. If the two personalities are like software, she is like the hardware. Normally that true personality wouldn’t carry any knowledge of itself, but the Ryogi family was able to keep that personality active. In fact this personality is what’s directly connected to the root of all things. She was born being connected to the root, but normally that will die while it’s in the mother’s womb. However the Ryogis made it possible for her to survive with intelligence. But she didn’t find any interest in having such power. Knowing everything and having everything is just boring. She at least wants to heal Mikiya’s scarred eye, but he doesn’t need it. She asks him if he doesn’t want to feel happy, but he answers that he’s already happy all the time. She thinks about how he can live an average life in a world where everyone wants to be special. If you can live your life normally without hurting anyone, then that might be the ideal way of life. But because he is ordinary, there will be no one who’ll try to understand him deeply. She wonder which way of life is really lonely.
She says farewell and she’ll never see him again, but takes it back saying she’ll be able to see him tomorrow. Mikiya returns home by himself in the snow with his black umbrella.

Intermission
I wanted to sock someone. It didn’t matter who it was, but it’s better if it’s someone that I don’t have to feel guilty about. I chose this bully who hanged out at the arcade. When he loses to someone in a game, he would get pissed and took the opponent to the back alley to beat him up. That was a perfect place for me as well, because I wouldn’t get in trouble.
“I don’t like weak people” The girl I confessed to said that. I probably am a weak person, I never fought anyone in my life. So in order to overcome my weakness. I decided to sock someone. I’ve lived for 17 years, and that’s like the only thing I never done.
So I lured him out. I beat him in a game so many times. When I got out of the arcade, he pulled me into this back alley. But the instant he looked back at me, I punched his face. Raising a weird sound, the guy fell on the floor and stopped moving. “What?” I couldn’t believe it. He died just like that. I didn’t know people died so easily. No, it’s not my fault. I don’t want to get caught by the police! I need to hide this body before anyone sees it. But how? Bury it? Burn it? But people would eventually find out. It’s impossible to completely dispose of a dead body. If it was in the middle of a forest or mountain, animals would eat it on their own but… Eat it? Oh, I just need to eat it. But the human body is so big, I can’t eat this much in one night. I’ll try drinking his blood first. I spit out. I can’t drink something like this. What should I do? I killed someone. I can’t hide his body. I killed someone. My life is over.
“Why don’t you finish drinking it?” I heard a man’s voice from behind. A man in a black shroud was standing there. He told me I wasn’t normal when I thought of eating this dead body… I was special. “Yes, you’re not normal, if you’re broken… be completely broken” I finished eating the dead body. “One hour, not bad. But that is also your limit. That’s all you can do by just knowing your origin. The origin needs to be completely awakened to take a shape. As things are right now, you’re a just crazy person who ate a person and that’ll be the end of it. But that’s not what you wish for, is it? A power of a superior being. A special ability that surpasses other. Don’t you want that?” I answer yes in my vacant mind. “Understood, you’re the first one” The man raises his right arm.
But I asks him one question. “Who are you?” The man dressed in a black shroud answers uninterested.
“Sorcerer… Araya Souren”
The sorcerer asks my name.
“Lio, is it? So close, only a letter apart from being a Leo.”
Prologue
Only the frozen breath contained heat and we were both watching our heartbeat about to get cut off.
That’s how the memories that were too important are only remaining as a regret that it’s disappearing
For example the rain. Raining like mist after school.
For example the sunset. The scenery of school as if it’s burning.
For example the snow. The white night when we first met, and the black umbrella.
I was satisfied, just by you being here, and laughing together. Even though I was anxious, I was able to feel comfortable.
I was happy, just by you being here, and walking together. Even though I wasn’t there, I was able to be together.
For a brief moment. I stood there because the sun showing from the tree leaves felt warm.
But you laughed saying that we can be here again.
…..I wanted someone to tell me those words.
——That was really like the resemblance of the dream like days.
Synopsis
殺人考察(2) …not nothing heart
Murder Speculation 2
The killer from two years ago is back. Serial homicides are occurring in town again, and Shiki was going out at night by herself. Mikiya still believed she wasn’t the killer and tries to find the real killer. What happened three years ago was that Shiki hesitated to kill Mikiya. Then Araya appeared and helped Mikiya escape saying it’s too early to destroy “it”. But Mikiya didn’t want to leave her. He waited for her after Araya left. When she found Mikiya again, she sliced him, but only shallowly. He started running, she went after him. He stopped and she sliced him again. Shiki was crying out like a child saying, “It pains me to be with you, you show me something that I can’t get and I become unstable. That’s why I need to kill you!” They chased after each other repeatedly, and at the end, Shiki jumped in front of a car saying, “If I can’t get rid of you, then I have to get rid of myself.”
The real killer was Shirazumi Lio, Mikiya’s senior that left his high school. He has blond mid length hair, and wore a red jacket and a black skirt. That silhouette looked just like Shiki, so people were mistaking him as her. Mikiya questions him why he’s doing it, and Lio tells him something inside of him is telling him to do it. Araya has awakened his “origin” and he couldn’t stop it. Mikiya wants to help him, but Lio refuses saying he don’t want to hurt him. He runs away.
Shiki was also searching for the killer and hasn’t gone back home for a few days. She finally found someone who was out of alignment that is worthy to kill. She has her last conversation with Mikiya over the phone. She says she wants to kill Lio because she’s a killer that finds pleasure in killing. Mikiya denies that saying that she knows how painful killing someone is because she has been killing her other destructive personality all her life. It might be true she was born to be a killer, but because she has been able to suppress it all her life, she should be able to keep on suppressing it. And he knows she’s a kind person. But Shiki answers, how do you know that! That’s why I hate you. and hangs up. But it was pretty obvious that she didn’t want Mikiya to get involved. Shiki’s grandfather once told her when he was about to die after killing so many people, that people will only be able to kill one person in their life time. In other words, the person won’t be able to carry the burden of more than one person’s life and still be able to live as a human being because a person’s life is too heavy.
Shiki finally finds Lio’s hideout. Lio had a hidden garden of drugs he was selling to people. He was hoping this drug will awaken crazy people like himself. Shiki was ready to kill him, but at the last moment she hesitates. She thought of the words of Mikiya, “I won’t forgive you if you kill him” She is then captured by Lio. Mikiya goes to save her by himself. He tries to convince Lio to realize that he’s an helpless killer already. But Lio slices his head in anger. Mikiya drops dead on the floor. He thought Mikiya was the only person who would understand him, but no. That only person is Shiki, a killer just like him. He walks off to where Shiki is tied up. But Shiki had already got out of the handcuffs by breaking the bone on her thumb. Lio tells her to fight him, but Shiki was uninterested in such thing already. She wanted to go back to where Mikiya was. But Lio tells her he already took him. He tosses her knife that is drenched with blood. She pauses.
(translation!)
—Ahh…
At such a close place. In such a short amount of time.
I lost him.
“….Idiot. That’s why I told you to stay at Tohko’s place. You even died in a stupid way.”
‘ I won’t forgive you if you kill him, Shiki—’
The man who held me back, was killed by the animal he tried to protect.
…….I wonder why
He was mine.
The only person who was allowed to kill him was me.
“——For sure”
I pick up my knife.
I stand up, holding it with both hands.
While facing down, I stand still putting the blade along my chest.
I spoke without raising my head.
“—-All right, let’s do it”
Without looking at my opponent, looking down.
There’s no need to look up.
Because I couldn’t see that animal anymore.
“—-You said you won’t forgive me, didn’t you? You’re right, we are similar in that way, Shirazumi”
The animal dashes at me.
I ignore it, still looking down.
The opponent I’m fighting can be left for later.
Right now—–I just want to hold it tightly.
While his warmth still remains on this knife.
Shirazumi Lio’s body jumps up.
She didn’t move, even confronting the enemy that is coming right at her.
The animal’s nail tears the flesh of the arm.
Even when the blood dripped and the enemy went passed her, she was still looking down.
Her hands were embracing the knife gently.
Importantly, Very importantly like an irreplaceable treasure.
The heat that it remembered is fading away.
Like my body heat and the warmth of the skin when we touched each other.
Like my heart that I thought I didn’t have, and my heart that he believed in.
Blood is dripping, and wounded, the body keeps on getting colder.
But I didn’t feel much pain.
Because I knew something much more painful.
….Getting hit by the cold rain, we kept on chasing each other.
——Only the frozen breath contained heaat and we were both watching our heartbeat that was about to get cut off.
Another flesh was torn off.
The enemy was playing with me as he was a hunter who cornered his prey.
He quickly ran passes me, and shreds my flesh as he went passed me.
…..It still doesn’t stop raining outside.
When I thought about it, I was already content with something not worth mentioning
——For example the rain. Raining like mmist after school, I was listening to your whistles.
A third strike, I was cut on my legs.
Making a splashing noise, the concrete gets wet.
The claws that reached the bones stained my leg and the floor with blood, and it pained me just to stand.
….Yes I had difficulty breathing just by standing there.
But I think there were sometime when we were able to smile at each other.
Because Shiki liked you.
——For example the sunset. The scenery of school as if it’s burning. We were talking with each other.
The enemy’s power was getting even stronger. His speed and accuracy was beyond of that of a beast.
Opposed to that, I was a junk. My heart frozen, my body will soon stop moving too.
Even then, I couldn’t be helped because I was finding that fact amusing.
My arm still moves so I’ll kill him for sure the next time he comes near me.
——I was satisfied, just by you being hhere, and laughing together.
He runs at me for the 4th time.
He is aiming for the right arm.
Even though I knew that, I couldn’t move.
….Because killing someone was wrong
——I was happy, just by you being here,, and walking together
I feel dizzy from losing too much blood.
My body will fall right away.
Even then, I’m protecting his words.
…..I can’t kill Shirazumi Lio.
Even if he died, his words are alive within me.
….I want to protect that warmth forever.
——For a brief moment. I stood there beecause the sun showing from the tree leaves felt warm.
But I was happy.
About you who treated me normally.
You’re not suppose to kill someone, I was happy that he spoke to me seriously.
I won’t say it out loud but.
You were a lot prettier than me, as if it’s a miracle.
——You laughed saying that we can be heere again.
The fifth claw approaches.
That is probably my end.
The enemy will surely go for my throat.
That is more than enough, for I will die by just standing here,
——-I wanted someone to tell me those wwords.
….Death is approaching.
When I look back, there were so many happy things that makes me smile.
Only a year of the past, and half a year till now.
Time flew by so fast, and I couldn’t even grasp it. But I appreciate it. It was unbelievably satisfying.
The boring high school years that never changed.
Resemblance of the peaceful days without any commotion.
——Those days were really like a dream..
Thank you. But I’m sorry.
….I look up and perceive his death.
I know I will lose it.
The things that you believed for me, and me who you said you liked.
Even knowing that, I decided to kill him.
Even if all of myself till now disappears, and no one will be besides me.
Even then—–I won’t forgive this guy who killed you——.
—-She gazes at the enemy who is running towards her.
Then the rest was easy.
Vividly like a swan that flies off from the water surface
The end came instantly.
(translation end)
Shiki kills Lio just like that, but she forfeits trying to save herself because Mikiya isn’t there anymore. However, Mikiya was alive! He just got his left eyes slashed deeply. When he drags his body to where Shiki is lying, he was just happy to know that she was alive. But Shiki was out of it because she couldn’t keep the promise and killed someone. Mikiya once said that he will help carry her burdens, so she won’t be lonely. He embraces her saying “Shiki, I will never forgive (let you leave) my side”. It was raining outside.
They were helped out of the scene by the police and were hospitalized for a few weeks. When they recovered, they went home together holding their hands.

Prologue
The day of thick mist is inside a forest.
Smell of green and voice of insects.
Walking to a far away place. Walking far into the place.
At a grass field without a sun. I met pretty children.
It’s almost lunch time so I need to go home.
“There’s no need to go home. This place is everlasting.”
The children start singing. But I wonder what’s eternity?
“That’s something that remains forever” “And that’s something that never changes”
Chorus of Cradles. Grass hill lit by the stars.
The mist melts like milk, and the road returning home disappears.
I don’t know what eternity is. I need to hurry up and go home.
My house is far away. My house is in the distant.
Smell of green and voice of insects.
The day of thick mist is inside a forest.
I probably won’t be able to go home forever.
Synopsis
忘却録音 Fairy Tale
Oblivion Recording
Kokuto Azaka was asked to investigate a weird incident at her school by Tohko. Two girls in a particular class started arguing and at the end they cut each other with a knife. For some reason the teacher didn’t report this incident and the school didn’t know that it happened till two weeks later. What’s puzzling is that this teacher acted like he forgot what happened. This teacher was a respectable person who shouldn’t try to hide anything. The reason of the students’ argument was also weird. The students were revealed of their childhood secrets that even they forgot about by mails sent from someone. They were suspicious of each other and at the end they cut each other. At this school, there were also stories of students witnessing fairies. The rumor is that the fairies are making people forgetful and returning the memories of the students.
Azaka’s school was a renowned private all girls school. Outsiders aren’t allowed to go in, so that’s why Tohko asked her to do this job. Azaka had entered this school for a personal reason. She loved her brother, not as a sister, but as a person. She believed it was difficult for him to love her as a woman if they were living together so she decided to distant herself by living away from him. Things were progressing according to plan as she grew up being separated from him, but it was ruined by the appearance of Ryogi Shiki. This must be her worst day because Shiki followed her to school. She needed an “eye” who can see fairies in case they existed, and so Tohko had Shiki, who had her special eyes, go with her, disguised as a potential transfer student. Wearing their school uniforms that looked like a cassock, Shiki and Azaka were complaining to each other as they walked through the hallway of the school. The school was in winter break, but there were still a lot of students who stayed at their dorms. First they met the current teacher of the class, Kurogiri Satsuki. The reason he is “current” is because the previous teacher, Hayama Hideo disappeared after a fire accident at this school. There was one girl, Tachibana Kaori, who got trapped and died at the time. Knowing his ill personality, people assumed he fled from the responsibility since the fire started from his class. In contrast, Kurosaki Satsuki was an honest teacher who everyone looked up to. When Azaka questioned with him, he was a good willed person with a smile, except that he really forgot what happened during the incident and he was worried. When they were leaving his room, they bumped into Ouji Misaya, a popular senior among the students. After they got out to the garden, Shiki sensed something from the old school building and ran off. Azaka tried to go after her, but someone called her from behind. While Shiki was walking along the old building, she was thinking about herself. Maybe it was because she filled up her hollow memory with her experiences over the past months, she doesn’t feel as empty as when she just awoke from the coma. Just then, she felt a sting from behind her neck and smashed something small that turned into a slimy liquid. When she returned to where Azaka was, Azaka asked her a weird question. “Oh, Shiki, you’re not going?” She just met the mastermind of the fairies and got her memories erased…
Next morning, Azaka questions the students from that class. They were all irritated and seemed to be hiding something. Azaka visits the faculty’s office hoping to find something. She finds a file of Hayama Hideo. The previous teacher was missing, he didn’t quit by himself. Just then, Kurosaki Satsuki came in to the office. Azaka asks him if he believed in the rumored fairies, but realized what an embarrassing question she’s asking. He explains there are many fairy stories around the world. Most of them are just altered stories of actual people who are helpful or play tricks. In the worst case of tricks, they would switch babies of gifted families. When she left the office, she visited the classrooms that were burned down in the previous incident. There she meets Ouji Misaya and remembers she is the one who spoke to her yesterday. Misaya already knew everything about her by taking her memory, that Azaka knew sorcery and came to investigate the incident. Misaya says she learned sorcery to avenge her lower classman, Kaori because she was forced to kill herself by her classmates. She also says Kurogiri Satsuki was her brother who got separated when she read his memory. She says Azaka can be her friend because they both loved their brother. Azaka tells her if she can bring back her memory when she started liking her brother, she’ll help her. But a lost memory is only a record, she can only bring back memories, she said. Azaka was ready to fight her, but instead she got knocked out when Misaya surprised her with a fairy that looked like Hayama Hideo.
Shiki was still sleeping in Azaka’s dorm room. She was waken up by a call from Mikiya. When she finds that he had called for Azaka, she was irritated. She couldn’t come up with anything to say, so she asks him to research the background of the two teachers, Kurogiri Satsuki and Hayama Hideo. He says okay and in return suggests her to research Tachibana Kaori’s life at school.
Azaka in her slumber is thinking about how special she wanted to be and how she ended up liking an ordinary person like her brother. She needed to bring back to her memory why she started liking him, so she can apologize to him. Shiki wakes her up and tells her what Mikiya suggested to do. They find out Kaori had a certain health issue and that must be the reason she killed herself. She was pregnant. Azaka suspects Hayama Hideo might have been the one who made her pregnant, being the only male teacher at school at the time. The class knew that and picked on her forcing her to suicide. But there was something that didn’t feel right. Just then, she receives a call. “Hello, Shiki?” Azaka was irritated when Mikiya said that. He found out the backgrounds of the two teachers. The fact is that Hayama Hideo was taking the girls out of school and having them have relationships for money. The school was confining their students, so the girls wanted to go out themselves. But Kaori didn’t want to. She resisted till the end, and she got impregnated when she did. The girls didn’t’ want the school to know that they were doing such things, so she was picked on and as a result killed herself in the fire. Azaka says that was a wrong choice, an escape from reality, but Mikiya says that was a painful decision. Kaori was a Christian. Christians don’t suicide. She must have had the deepest struggle, and thought that sacrificing herself will be a way to save the souls of her guilty classmates. Azaka understood that this was Misaya’s intentions. She was trying to force the girls in the class to kill themselves.
Shiki was in Azaka’s room waiting for her return. She kills a fairy that was trying to attack her by throwing a knife to the ceiling. She goes out to the hall way and goes after Misaya who was running away. She must have thought she was Azaka. When she went into the chapel, a man with a dry smile was standing there.
Because she was only told to investigate the truth of the incident and now that she knew what’s going on, Azaka was about to get ready to leave the school. But Mikiya stops her saying I have the file for Kurosaki Satsuki. She was uninterested, but Mikiya said that it might not be unrelated. Satsuki was born in England, he was smart child but one day he was put out as an adopted child. The problem was that when he was 10, he lost his ability to remember things. But soon he recovered and entered college when he was 14, graduated with a degree of linguistics. He became a teacher and transferred among a number of schools. The strange fact is that there were students who killed themselves in every school that he went to. Azaka puts down the phone and thought of who was the one who taught sorcery to Misaya.
Kokuto was lying in the office when Touko came home. She flipped through the file of the teachers that Mikiya researched on, and froze at the picture of Kurosaki Satsuki. “god’s Words.” She couldn’t believe the sorcerer who the Association is searching for frantically is teaching high school. Also known as the Master of Babel, he is the only sorcerer who is able to speak the “Unified Language” that existed in the mythological age. It is a language that is spoken to the plane of the world that we stand on and not to people themselves. There is no concept that can’t be communicated, surpassing the barriers of cultures, and everything he says has a forceful meaning. For that reason, he is the ultimate hypnotist. He could also read the memories of people from the records in that plane, even if that person forgot it. Mikiya is worried that if he’s that powerful, then Shiki and Azaka might be in danger. But Tohko says he doesn’t need to worry, “god’s Word” has no ability to hurt others. He’s just a pursuer of “eternity”.
Shiki was standing against Kurosaki Satsuki at the chapel. Satsuki tells Shiki that he isn’t the one who was using the fairies, but he is probably the one she was looking for. She sensed him as her enemy, but couldn’t motivate herself to kill him. His personality reminded her of Mikiya. Satsuki goes on and says that he’s just returning people’s lost past. He is trying to keep people eternal by having them record everything they experienced the way it is. He asks if Shiki wanted her lost memory back, but she refuses. Shiki realizes this person was just similar to Mikiya, but completely different. She finds out he was called by Araya to come here. Although Araya’s gone now, Satsuki’s job was probably to defeat Shiki. Accepting him as her real enemy, Shiki dashes to him to kill him. But when he says the words, “You won’t be able to see me”, he disappeared and she sliced the air. But she was fast enough to kill one of his arm. She tried concentrating on just seeing his lines of death but that was prevented by the words, “You won’t be able to see here” Her vision was engulfed by darkness. Satsuki says he’ll grant her wish by returning her lost memory. Shiki cries out no, but she couldn’t do anything about it.
After she hanged up on Mikiya, Azaka went to see Satsuki. He was in his room with a hanging arm. She automatically knew who did that to him. She questioned him and he was indeed the person who was ultimately responsible for Kaori’s suicide, taught Misaya her sorcery, and was collecting and returning the lost memory of people. However, there wasn’t any reason for him to do these things. When these people came to see him, he just told and gave them what they wanted the most. He originally studied sorcery in order to retrieve his lost memory. But eventually he found out that he didn’t lose them, his brain had a disorder. So in return, he was trying to search for his past in other people’s memory. Returning people’s memory was just a courtesy he was doing. But not everyone wants that and if they knew, a lot of people would want him dead. Satsuki was kidnapped by fairies when he was a child and he was cursed since that time. When he noticed, all the fairies were dead and his hands were stained with blood. When he returned home in that messed up shape, his parents wouldn’t consider him their child anymore. Since that day, he lost his ability to recognize his memory. Not being able to recognize his memory means that even if he has a memory, he is unable to know that his memory is true. The only way he was able to communicate with people was that he recorded everything by words, and matching those words with the real world. For example, he is meeting Azaka right now by recording Azaka’s physical appearance by words, match it with his previous record which is also a data of words, and finally knows it’s her. If even one thing was different, he wouldn’t know that it’s her. Azaka realizes why he’s different from Mikiya. Satsuki isn’t looking at anyone. A person doesn’t exist here, just a book. When Kaori and Misaya came to ask for his help, he could only give them an answer that they had themselves. He will just act like a mirror and wouldn’t think with them. Ending up doing what they had in their mind from the beginning, they are having their wish granted, in a way. Hoping he still has some human emotions left, she asks him who Misaya is to him. But he only answered, “Ouji Misaya is Ouji Misaya, is there anything wrong?” He tells her that Misaya gathered the people in the class at the old building and trying to set a fire. She needs to hurry if she wants to stop it. Azaka hurries to the scene, but she didn’t notice that those last words were something out of his own feelings.
When Azaka gets there, all the students were lying unconscious and she could smell gasoline. Ouji Misaya was making the girls kill themselves just like how Kaori did. The first one that wakes up would try to kill all of them since they were irritated towards each other. Misaya was standing above the staircase. Azaka tries to convince her by telling her that she was just hypnotized by Satsuki. She talked to Satsuki because she must have accidentally killed Hideo. He isn’t her brother, he just took the fact that she wanted a brother and returned it as fact. The fairies aren’t her own power, he was just making the fairies follow her. Misaya wouldn’t accept that so Azaka had to scare her with her fire sorcery. Misaya fell on her knees powerlessly and accepted the truth. Satsuki was a mysterious person who attracted her and though he would help her. But she soon found out he wasn’t a pretty person like she first thought. But she couldn’t accept that. She should have never talked to Satsuki in the first place. Azaka thought Misaya was just like herself. There are important feelings that loses its importance once it comes out of our mouth. There are some feelings that are better off to not be put into words.
In her dream, Azaka remembers the time she first liked Mikiya. It was long time ago when an old neighbor who was close to their family passed away. Azaka cried, but when she looked up to Mikiya, he was holding back his tears. When she asked her why isn’t he crying, he said he couldn’t, even if he wants to. She understood what he meant. Crying is a special behavior. It’s a representation of sadness that transmits to other people. If he cried now, he would make others even more sad. Because he was a person who didn’t want to make anyone suffer in any way, he couldn’t cry, even if this old man was someone he’s been taking care of ever since the old man’s family passed away. Being able to be nice to everyone also means he is lonely. Since then, he has been Azaka’s important person.
When Azaka got out of her school, Mikiya was waiting for her. He said he’ll do something special for her, since he couldn’t get to see her on New Years (He was seeing Shiki). When she was excited about what she should ask him, he said which do you like better, Western or Japanese food? He was taking her out to eat. She couldn’t believe he was actually thinking a girl will be happy with a meal, but was convinced that this is her brother that he liked.
When Kurosaki Satsuki returned to his room, he was stabbed by a student. He gently told the girl to leave. The student was scared by the fact that he was kind even to the person who was killing him and fled. This girl looked like a person in his record, but her hair style was different. For that reason, he never knew who actually killed him. Locking himself in his room, he tried to think of something interesting. He thought of before he was born. If he wasn’t born, his world had been so much peaceful. Satsuki was laughing. He felt that he was laughing for the first time in his life. It’s later revealed that he really had a sister. Whether Misaya was his sister or not, is a mystery “forever”
Shiki was walking with Mikiya. The fragments of memories that she recovered was making her feel anxious. But she was able to forget about it when she was with him. It was her first time going out at night with someone else.
